Load up and stay

In this demonstration, the dog is learning the "place" behavior. I am starting outdoors using a dog bed and the comand "load up" to teach him how to climb onto the bed and remain there when instructed. Once this behavior is consistent, I will transition the training indoors and introduce the command "place." At that point, he will understand to go to his dog bed, remain there, and hld the position until he is given a release command.

Adventure recall

During adventure recall training, I use minimal verbal communication. The focus is on allowing the dog to naturally engage and follow as we move in various directions. When the trainee returns to my side, I mark the behavior with the command "yes" and provide praise, reinforcing the desired position during a walk. This exercise helps strenghten recall skills while also improving overall leash manners in real-world walking environments.

Target practice

Target practice is a versatile training exercise that supports the development of multiple commands. With this tranee, the primary focus is improving recall, as this is currently his biggest challenge. Since he is new to target training, I initially reward him each time he successfully touches the target. Once he understands the association between the behavior and the reward, I will introduce the command "here," which cues him to return to me. This process helps reinforce recall by clearly communication that responding promptly results in possitive reinforcement.

Distractions during recall

This recall is still in progress. I am currently focusing on recall training due to the trainee's strong fixation on chasing cars. At this stage, I am using controlled distractions such as other dogs playing, chasing balls, and play wrestling. Each time he attempts to engage with the distraction, I recall him back to me. With consistent training over the next few weeks, this method will help strengthen his response around high-level distractions such as loud noises and passing vehicles.
